I know, it sounds weird. But trust me, it's actually really rad. Get out your crayons and make yourself some colourful lippy!
You will need:
- Crayola crayons
- Coconut oil (found in the cooking section of the supermarket)
- Olive oil or any other vegetable oil
- Chopping board covered in paper towel(s)
- Butter knife
- Stirring utensil (such as a skewer)
- Small glass bowl
- A smallish cooking pot
- Small tubs to put lip tint in
To start off you're going to need to fill up the pot with water. Not the whole way, about 5 or 6 cm deep. Put it on the stove and leave it to boil. Make sure it doesn't boil like crazy, try for relaxed bubbles (good lord Katie, relaxed bubbles??!).
Now, it doesn't matter what style of crayons you use, but I got the twisty ones which are probably the most difficult to work with. It would most likely be a lot easier to use the ones wrapped in paper. Chop up your crayon on your paper covered board (we don't want crayon stains now, do we?) into fairly small pieces so that it will melt easily.

Put your chopped up crayon into the glass bowl and add 1/2 tsp of coconut oil and 1/4 tsp of oil. Place the bowl into the boiling water, carefully carefully. Now you start stirring the crayon mixture with your stirring object of choice .
Just keep stirring, Just keep stirring. Until it has melted, that is.
Now, put on your oven mitts and grab out your bowl, DO NOT TOUCH THE WATER IT WILL BE HOT AND YOUR BOWL WILL ALSO BE VERY HOT! Now very carefully pour your crayon mix into your little tub and put your tub in the fridge for 20 minutes to set. If you have and left over crayons in your bowl DO NOT POUR IT DOWN THE SINK. Wait for it to cool down then chuck it in the bin. Look at this cute little lipstick tub in the fridge, aw.
To make another colour just wipe your glass bowl out with a paper towel, then repeat the process. I got really into this whole lipstick making business...
I was a bit disappointed when I realised the colours didn't show up incredibly well, but maybe I just did something a little wrong. Let me know if yours turns out well! I still love this recipe so much, and I just want to wear these colours everywhere. However, I do not recommend this for daily use. Maybe just for nights out occasionally!
I really loved the red one I made, although it turned out more like a red gloss.
